introduction

This exhibition is the result of a large trip to Peru in the second half of 2001. Without expectations and also without prejudices the trip was undergone. In this way open, we found a real treasure before our eyes. Never had a country been so interesting to us. We made a full immersion. Whenever we could, we talked to the people and tried to understand the different aspects of Peruvian life using conversation, newspapers, study books and novels of Peruvian literature. Although our color - if not our clothes - always gave us away as "rich" foreigners, we found a lot of people willing to accept us just as persons and talking to us about their worries and their pleasures. A stay at the Defensora (DPL) in Chepn opened a lot of doors usually closed. They made us feel a little bit at home. Here - as is natural - are presented the impressions of a European. The filter by which had to pass all the images of Peru is our mind, educated here and used to a different reality. As an introduction to a country, therefore, this exhibition is in a certain sense second class, since it does not give the vision of an autochthonous person. In the exhibition not only some very few images of said trip are shown, but also texts hanging from the ceiling in between the photographs. These texts do not want to document, but rather open the visitors perception, inciting him to think less and feel more. Sometimes consternation is used as a resource, so the visitor should not try to understand - at least this is the will of the author - but let the words flow, try to feel the rhythm and let the colored light reflected by the photographs enter his heart.
